Activating a Legacy: Inside the GCSAA Centennial Experience Brand Activation

As part of the 2026 GCSAA Conference and Trade Show, the Centennial Experience stands out as one of the most meaningful and immersive elements on the Trade Show Floor. Created to honor 100 years of progress in the golf course management industry, the exhibit invites attendees to step into the history, innovation, and people who have shaped the profession.

Designed as a walk-through timeline, the Centennial Experience blended storytelling with physical artifacts, giving attendees a tangible connection to the evolution of equipment, practices, and the role of the superintendent. Positioned within the heart of the Trade Show, it serves as both an educational feature and a shared space for reflection across generations of industry professionals.

The Scope

For the Centennial year, I supported the planning and execution of the Centennial Experience as a core feature of the Trade Show environment. The goal was to create an exhibit that could handle high attendee volume while still delivering a thoughtful and engaging journey through time.

The experience was built around a decades-spanning timeline that wrapped through the space, guiding attendees across key milestones in GCSAA history. This structure required careful coordination of layout, traffic flow, and visibility to ensure the exhibit remained accessible and intuitive, even during peak hours on the show floor.

A central component of the experience was the integration of historical equipment and artifacts. These pieces were not simply on display but positioned to spark recognition and conversation among attendees. Many visitors had firsthand experience using similar tools throughout their careers, which transformed the exhibit into an interactive and personal experience without the need for formal programming.

Execution also required close collaboration across content, design, and operations teams to balance storytelling with physical constraints of the Trade Show environment. Every element, from signage to spacing, was designed to support both engagement and efficiency within a busy, high-traffic setting.

The Outcome

The Centennial Experience became a focal point of the Trade Show Floor, drawing consistent engagement from attendees throughout the event. Its ability to connect past and present resonated strongly, particularly among long-time members who saw their own careers reflected in the evolution of the industry.

Beyond its visual impact, the exhibit created space for conversation, shared memory, and professional pride. Attendees didn’t just move through the experience, they paused, reflected, and connected with one another over the changes they had witnessed firsthand.

As part of the broader Centennial celebration, the experience reinforced the depth of GCSAA’s legacy while highlighting the continued innovation shaping the future of the industry.

The 2026 GCSAA Conference and Trade Show marks a defining milestone for the golf industry, celebrating 100 years of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America. As the largest annual gathering of its kind, the event brings together thousands of professionals from across the country, making this centennial not just a conference but a moment of reflection and celebration across the entire industry.
